CNC Bending Challenges for Square Tubes — Practical Tips to Prevent Section Deformation

2026-09-16

Target KeywordsCNC square tube bending, rectangular tube bending, square tube antideformation, CNC square tube process

Round tube bending technology is wellproven, while square and rectangular tube bending presents more challenges. Common defects include sidewall sinking, corner distortion and section distortion, ruining appearance and assembly tolerance.

Deformation comes from asymmetric stress distribution; compression sides tend to cave inward. Use dedicated squaretube dies instead of roundtube dies. Die inner profile should fit four corners of square tubes to minimize squeezing deformation.

Select tooling according to wall thickness. Dedicated dies work for thickwall square tubes. Insert mandrels for internal support when bending thinwall square tubes. Avoid excessively small bending radius. Reduce bending speed to lower instant squeezing force.

Secure clamping prevents slipping. Measure section and diagonal dimensions of first sample before mass runs. Squaretube jobs normally require longer setup time than roundtube work on CNC benders.
