Process Challenges & Tuning Tips for CNC Bending of Aluminum Alloy Tubes
Target Keywords:aluminum tube bending, CNC bend aluminum pipe, solve aluminum tube cracking
Lightweight aluminum tubes are widely used in newenergy equipment, medical devices and outdoor hardware. Aluminum has unique plastic properties and tends to crack on outer fibers or suffer section distortion during CNC bending.
Different grades such as 6061 and 6063 behave differently. 6061 features higher hardness, stronger springback and higher cracking risk; 6063 delivers better ductility. Temper condition also affects bending performance.
Process tips: Adopt larger bending radius where possible. Keep moderate bending speed. Apply proper lubrication. Use mandrel support for thinwall aluminum tubes. Finetune springback compensation, as aluminum shows more variable springback than carbon steel. For seamwelded aluminum tubes, keep weld out of tension zones.
Aluminum is soft; high die surface finish is required to avoid indentations and scratches. Complete sufficient trial bends before mass runs. Do not reuse carbonsteel bending parameters directly; aluminum jobs require full parameter retuning.
